Memories of Margie Nackerud-Bakken

Margie
Fern Bakken was born September 13, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to
Andrew and Julia (Olson) Nackerud. She was baptized and confirmed at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Margie graduated from Walnut Grove High
School in 1941, and attended Miss Woods Academy for teaching. She
then taught school in Mapleton for several years. On November 23,
1946, Margie was united in marriage to Harry Bakken at St. Olaf
Lutheran Church. Together the couple lived on the family farm until
1977 when they moved into Walnut Grove. Harry passed away March 2,
2001. Margie was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was
active in the ladies aid and circle. She was also a member of the
Thimble Club and the Birthday Club. Margie enjoyed painting ceramics
making quilts and clothes for her granddaughters and sewing various
items. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking. Margie
Bakken passed away Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Valley View Manor
in Lamberton, Minnesota at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 9
days. |
